About me
Terasawa has lived on Teuri Island since he was 22 years old, photographing seabirds while working on their conservation. Terasawa takes you on a small boat into the world of seabirds that he knows so well, on the “Seabird Adventure Cruise.” The lively expressions and energetic behavior of seabirds seen up close is dramatic in itself. This cruise will be a special seabird experience for you.
Why a trip to my region is worthwhile
Teuri Island is a seabird paradise unparalleled anywhere in the world. Teuri Island is the only seabird breeding ground in the world where nearly 1,000 spectacled guillemots live and approximately 400,000 breeding pairs of Rhinoceros auklets live. Black-tailed gulls, which are endemic to Japan, as well as Japanese cormorants, Japanese auklets, pelican cormorants, and slaty-backed gulls breed here, and the number of common murres, which once dropped to 13 and was on the verge of extinction, has now recovered to over 100. On Teuri Island, eight species of seabirds and one million birds coexist with humans.
