About me

I was born in the United States, but have spent roughly a third of my life in Japan – with over a half decade in Hokkaido! Becoming the sole proprietor of ‘Kurtz Guide Services’ in 2023, I have worked closely with travel companies from Hokkaido to the UK and everywhere in between! I am a Hokkaido Governor Certified Nature Guide, Certified Tour Conductor and Onsen Sommelier among other things. I am currently based out of Asahikawa, but will happily guide anywhere in Hokkaido.

Why a trip to my region is worthwhile

My forte is being able to work both sides of the cultural playing field, understanding the sensibilities of local DMO’s, service staff and local rules while also managing the diverse needs from guests around the world. Translation and hiking are my specialities, but there are probably a few more specialties I haven’t found just yet!
