About me

I’m an expert nature and mountein guide in Shiretoko, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. For over two decades, I’ve been deeply involved in the region’s nature, including biodiversity surveys and serving as a university lecturer. With a Ph.D., I offer tours and lectures across eastern Hokkaido (Shiretoko, Akan-Mashu) that are backed by rich knowledge and scientific data. I have also made many media appearances showcasing Shiretoko’s wildlife and beauty.

Why a trip to my region is worthwhile

I guide tours across the Shiretoko and Akan-Mashu National Parks in eastern Hokkaido, regions known for their rare and pristine natural environments.

I offer a variety of seasonal adventures:

Spring/Summer: I lead mountain climbing tours up some of Japan’s most famous peaks, including Mt. Rausu, Mt. Shari, and Mt. Meakan. I also guide Tenkara fly fishing for local trout species like Yamame and Oshorokoma (Japanese char).

Winter: I organize thrilling drift ice activities like SUP (Stand-Up Paddleboarding) and kayaking, as well as backcountry skiing tours.

I’m dedicated to sharing the incredible, year-round beauty of eastern Hokkaido.

Guide areas

Shiretoko National Park

Shiretoko is a World Natural Heritage Site recognized as the world's lowest latitude area where drift ice arrives.
It features a rich ecosystem that connects the sea to the mountains, home to abundant wildlife including brown bears, Steller's sea eagles, and Blakiston's fish owls.
Its greatest appeal lies in its magnificent cliffs and the pristine landscapes reflected in the Shiretoko Five Lakes.
Recently, the unique experience of climbing the Kamuiwakka Hot Falls—a mysterious river where hot spring water flows—has become very popular.

Akan Mashu National Park

Akan-Mashu National Park centers on three magnificent caldera lakes: Lake Mashu, Lake Kussharo, and Lake Akan. Lake Mashu is famous for its "Mashu Blue" color and one of the world's highest transparencies, often veiled in mystical fog.
Attractions include the unique Marimo moss balls in Lake Akan, active volcanoes like Mount Meakan and Mt. Iouzan (Atosanupuri), and diverse landscapes that showcase the earth's energy.
It is also a place to experience the rich Ainu culture.
