I mainly offer insightful walking tours in Sapporo for international visitors, along with a selection of other guided experiences. Before becoming a guide, I worked as a nurse for seven years at a university hospital in Japan and later gained experience in elderly care in New Zealand. I now balance my work as a public health nurse with guiding, sharing the history and culture of the region.
Drawing on my healthcare background, I pay close attention to each guest’s lifestyle, travel experience, and interests. My goal is to create tours that offer meaningful insights into local life and culture, highlighting both similarities and differences in ways that lead to genuine connection, discovery, and enjoyment during your time in Hokkaido.

- Canoeing
I first encountered canoeing at the age of 17. Since then, I have been walking the path of Canadian canoes for over 20 years. In 2010, I moved to Lake Shikotsu, where my current base of operations is located, and have been “creating a story that can only be told here” with three pillars: environmental conservation, tourism promotion, and regional revitalization. In the future, I aim to further develop Lake Shikotsu, while also using my experience in this area to help revitalize other regions.

I am experience working in outdoor education and mountain tourism. As a student I was a member of the Explorer’s Club at school, giving Tobaji numerous opportunities to explore the outdoors and travel overseas. This included a trip to Nepal, where he trekked Annapurna and rafted down the river of Karnali.I was once your typical Japanese “salaryman”, but decided to change up careers and work for an outdoor education provider, and later became a certified mountain guide. I fell in love with Daisetsuzan for its untouched nature and distinct seasonal beauty, and is excited to share my profound knowledge of the area. When I’m not guiding, I can be found canoeing or helping rice farmers and beekeepers in Higashikawa in the spring and autumn. Languages: Japanese (Native) / English (Fluent) / Swahili
